Margaret Eberhardt
Margaret “Jane” Eberhardt passed away peacefully on her 103rd birthday, Wednesday, June 19, 2019, at Concordia Lutheran Ministries in Cabot, where she was a resident for 7½ years.
Born June 19, 1916, in Butler, she was the daughter of the late Walter A. Morris and Myrtle P. (Campbell) Morris.
Mrs. Eberhardt attended Butler High School and graduated with honors in the January Class of 1935.
She was a former employee of Spaide Shirt Co. as an embroiderer of fine monograms and traveled the eastern and central states, monogramming shirts for the company. She was a teller at the Butler office of the Union Trust Bank. She was also a homemaker.
Mrs. Eberhardt lived in Sun City Center, Fla., for 20 years, and returned to Butler in 1999.
She enjoyed swimming and gardening in her spare time, as well as playing golf and bridge. One of her greatest pleasures in life was traveling, which included Mackinac Island, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Alaska, Hawaii, Bermuda and the Panama Canal.
She was a breast cancer survivor. She attributes her longevity to staying active, a positive attitude, a well-balanced diet, along with a blessing from God.
She was a member of Hill United Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the church choir for several years.
Mrs. Eberhardt was a loving mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and the love and care for her family is her greatest legacy.
Mrs. Eberhardt was a loving mother to her four children, David (Linda) Eberhardt of Amherst, Ohio, Helen Eberhardt of Bellevue, Sue (Danny) McKnight of Butler, and Richard (Joanne) Eberhardt of Sylvan Lake, Mich.
She was the proud grandmother of Nicole Carlson and her husband, Scott, of North Ridgeville, Ohio. She was the loving great-grandmother of Isabella Rose Carlson.
She is also survived by two nieces.
Mrs. Eberhardt’s family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff on Schwalm Hall at Concordia, for the devotion and care they have provided for the past 7½ years.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Eberhardt was preceded in death by a son, James Walter Eberhardt; and two sisters, Kathryn L. “Kate” Hughes of Butler, and Geraldine “Jerry” Campbell of Grove City.
EBERHARDT — Friends of Margaret Jane Eberhardt, who died Wednesday, June 19, 2019, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.
Immediately following at 4 p.m., the funeral service will be at the funeral home with the Rev. Leigh Benish of Hill United Presbyterian Church officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hill United Presbyterian Church, 501 Second St., Butler, PA 16001.
