PETROLIA — A long list of water concerns haunting Petroleum Valley Regional Water Authority officials may further complicate water issues plaguing the Bradys Bend area.PVRWA officials filed a barrage of Right to Know requests seeking information on East Brady Water System. Sitting beside the resulting paperwork, PVRWA board Chairman Jeff Shumaker succinctly described his agency's position.“There's something wrong, but we don't know what it is,” Shumaker said. “We don't know if it's malicious intent or incompetence. But we know there's something wrong.”Here are the basics: Bradys Bend Water and Sewer Authority had to put many of its customers on a boil water advisory last month after a Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection inspection found their system out of compliance. An emergency connection is being established between Bradys Bend and PVRWA to resolve the problem. The Bradys Bend community would switch its system over to buy water from PVRWA, rather than producing it itself from a limestone mine. However, PVRWA in turn gets its water from East Brady. And, as Shumaker said, PVRWA and East Brady are not enjoying a happy relationship. PVRWA officials say they're hoping to leave East Brady in the coming years, throwing further uncertainty into the evolving situation. On Tuesday, DEP officials will speak with PVRWA officials to discuss recent lead level tests on their water. The agency isn't yet in formal violation, according to the DEP, but they have returned some samples over the lead action level.PVRWA officials think their supplier, East Brady, is to blame. East Brady engineers say otherwise.
