Woman in wheelchair killed in Armstrong Co. vehicle accident identified

RAYBURN TWP, ARMSTRONG CO — State police are investigating a vehicle accident Thursday morning that killed a woman in a wheelchair in central Armstrong County.

The fatality occurred around 5:22 a.m. at Route 28/66 and Troy Hill Road in Rayburn Township. The victim was struck by a northbound vehicle while crossing Route 28/66.

The Armstrong County coroner's office identified the victim as Sylvia Jean Denslow, 53, of New Kensington.

Denslow was in a wheelchair.

She was struck by a Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by Roger Crissman of Cowansville.

Driving conditions were poor, according to a coroner's office news release, with heavy fog limiting visibility.

Coroner Brian Myers pronounced Denslow dead on the scene.

Toxicology results will not be available for several weeks, according to Myers' office.

Denslow was crossing the road after leaving the Bench Racers Store.

The road was closed in both directions for a little more than three hours after the crash to allow an accident reconstruction investigation.

The road reopened around 8:45 a.m.

Along with state police and the coroner's office, Rayburn Township Volunteer Fire Department, Kittanning Township Volunteer Fire Department, Kittanning Ambulance Service and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation also responded to the scene.
