National Emergency Alert System test to occur Wednesday
A nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System will be conducted Wednesday on televisions and radios. The test will occur at 2 p.m., according to the Emergency Management Agency's press release, and will affect satellite television and radio, cable systems and wireline video providers for approximately one minute.
The test is being conducted by the Federal Emergency Management Agency in coordination with the Federal Communications Commission. The alerts were created for use in a national emergency or disaster. They are the only alerts FEMA can send nationwide simultaneously.
The last emergency alert test occurred Oct. 3, 2018 and targeted cell phones. This test will not include any message to cell phones.
