Scott Timko will challenge Conor Lamb in the 17th District

Scott Timko, a Cranberry Township resident and Knoch High School graduate, will challenge Conor Lamb in the 17th District.

A Cranberry Township resident and Knoch High School graduate is U.S. Rep. Conor Lamb's, D-17th, first Republican challenger for the 2020 election.

Scott Timko, 54, will seek the seat that represents a portion of Cranberry Township, all of Beaver County and the North Hills, part of the South Hills and Allegheny Valley in Allegheny County. The district was created last year by the state Supreme Court. In November, Lamb, then of the 18th district, defeated Rep. Keith Rothfus, R-12th, for the seat.

Timko is a lifelong resident of Western Pennsylvania, growing up off Perry Highway in Allegheny County. His family later moved to Butler County, and he graduated from Knoch High School. He then earned a bachelor's degree in aeronautics from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. After graduating, he became an officer in the United States Air Force, where he served as a pilot and aircraft commander. His time of service included tours of duty during the Gulf War, Bosnia and Rwanda.

After leaving the Air Force, Timko went into commercial aviation and is still actively flying as an airline transport captain. During his career, he has represented his fellow pilots as their advocate.

Timko and his wife, Donna, have been married since 1990, and have three children.

Timko's campaign website indicates he supports issues such as longer prison sentences for drug dealers, defunding “sanctuary cities,” strong immigration enforcement and Second Amendment rights.
