Man arrested on warrant in Giant Eagle lot

State police arrested a Center Township man on an active bench warrant out of Clarion County on Monday evening in the parking lot of Giant Eagle behind Clearview Mall.

State police arrested a Center Township man on an active bench warrant out of Clarion County on Monday in the parking lot of Giant Eagle behind Clearview Mall.

Cpl. Michael Lewis said state police received a tip that James McCune, 47, was in the Butler area. McCune was wanted on a warrant for failure to appear for probation in Clarion County. According to court information, McCune, who is listed as being from Harrisville, pleaded guilty in December 2017 to a misdemeanor simple assault charge and was sentenced to two years probation.

Lewis said the heavy police presence in the Giant Eagle parking lot, where a crowd of onlookers watched from their vehicles around 5:30 p.m., stemmed from two other people in the vehicle with McCune acting suspicious.

He said authorities got permission to search the vehicle and two people with McCune were released shortly after.

Paramedics also responded to the scene to clear McCune medically for transport, according to Lewis.
