Man flown to hospital after vehicle accident on motorized bike
BUTLER TWP — A man riding a motorized bicycle was taken to the hospital Tuesday night after being struck by a vehicle.
Butler Township Police investigating the scene said the man was taken by helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital due to a serious head injury.
Butler Township firefighters assisted Butler Ambulance in directing traffic and transporting the patient to a landing zone near the Butler schools down the road.
According to police, the man was riding his motorized bike on the berm of the road along the westbound side of New Castle Road, across from Point Plaza.
Different than a motorcycle, a motorized bicycle has a small motor and transmission attached to the bicycle to assist with pedaling or completely powering the bike.
At about 9:30 p.m., a sedan traveling westbound turned into the KFC parking lot, and the two collided.
On the scene, the bicycle was crumpled and bent on the ground, and the sedan had a large dent above the front-passenger fender.
