NYC woman charged in crime ring targeting Butler residences

CRANBERRY TWP — A New York City woman is charged for her alleged involvement in an organized crime ring that targeted residences in Butler and Allegheny counties.

Luisa Fernanda Rico Maldonado, 31, of East Flushing, New York, was arraigned on five counts of overnight burglary, one count of criminal attempt to commit overnight burglary, seven counts of criminal trespassing, one count of conspiracy to commit overnight burglary, one count of corrupt organizations and conspiracy to violate the state corrupt organizations law. All 16 counts are felonies.

Charges were filed Sept. 13 by the Office of the Attorney General. According to court filings, Rico Maldonado was part of an organized crime group that committed thefts across the Pittsburgh region, including in Seven Fields.

She is being held in Butler County Prison on $100,000 bond. An Oct. 25 preliminary hearing is scheduled.
