Karns City gets volleyball, soccer wins

Karns City's Emma Dailey moves past a Forest defender during the Gremlins' 5-0 win Thursday night.

Emily Huff totaled nine kills, six aces and four digs to lead Karns City's volleyball team to a 3-2 victory at Union.

Emma Clark added eight kills, Cassidy Nolan and Mackenzie Dunn both had seven kills for the Gremlins, who won by scores of 25-23, 22-25, 25-20, 24-26 and 15-5.

Peyton Turner contributed 21 assists and Ashley Fox 19 digs to the win.

Butler 3, North Hills 2 — Taylor Welter had 20 kills as the Golden Tornado survived a marathon match against North Hills to win 19-25, 25-16, 25-18, 24-26, 15-13.

Ava Carney added 12 kills and 23 digs and Hailey Metzger pitched in 23 assists and 20 digs for the Golden Tornado.

Freeport 3, Valley 0 — Ten of Mackensey Jack's 31 service points were aces as the Yellowjackets rolled over the visiting Vikings 25-1, 25-15 and 25-11.

Isabella Russo had 11 kills and Lauren Lampus eight kills for Freeport (9-0, 8-0), which remained undefeated.

Maddie Clark dished out 25 assists, Tori Radvan dropped five kills and Hadley Helgren three kills.

Clarion 3, Moniteau 0 — Ivie Scott had three blocks, three digs and two aces for Moniteau, which fell by scores of 25-6, 25-13, 25-16.

A-C Valley 3, Sharpsville 1 — Mia Sherman had 21 service points — including 12 aces — to lead the Falcons to a 23-25, 25-16, 25-17, 25-8 win.

Sherman had six consecutive aces at one point and also had eight kills.

Meah Ielase pitched in 13 kills and 13 digs and Andrea Meals 15 digs and eight kills for A-C Valley (10-1).

Freeport goalkeeper Luke Heider made 13 saves, including one on a penalty kick, to help the host Yellowjackets salvage a scoreless tie with Shady Side Academy.Freeport is now 9-4-2 overall and 7-3-2 in section play.Karns City 7, Franklin 1 — Dakota King scored four goals to lead the Gremlins (12-0).Owen Collwell also scored twice and had an assist, Nate Rondinelli had a goal and an assist and Kaden Scherer had two assists in the victory.Mars 11, Armstrong 0 — The Planets improved to 12-1-1 overall and 11-0-1 in section play with this lopsided win over the River Hawks.Austin Rocke led the way with four goals, Stephen Papik had three, followed by a goal each from Tyler Nymberg, Jacob Jentry, Seth Grady and Brayden Boatwright.Slippery Rock 3, Warren 1 — Nathaniel Willison, Ryan Davey and Ian Balquist scored for Slippery Rock Wednesday night.Slippery Rock (9-3, 7-0) hosts McDowell at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

McKenna Martin scored a pair of goals to help lead Karns City to a 5-0 win over Forest.Emma Dailey, Brooke Stahlman and Cecelia Morrow also scored goals for the Gremlins.Alexis Moore also had two assists for Karns City.Freeport 7, Apollo-Ridge 0 — Sidney Shemanski scored three goals and also had an assist in the Yellowjackets’ rout.Emma Check and Crystal Zembruzski also scored a pair of goals for Freeport (9-2).Maddy Zarichnak had four saves in the shutout.
