ARMCO TO BUILD SILICON MILL, DOUBLE '600' IN '70S

A $39-million additional expansion project forButler Armco — a grain-oriented electrical processingplant — was announced last night by Armco PresidentC. William Verity.
He also revealed, hard on the heels of the newlycompleted Project 600 melt shop and maintenance facilitiesdedicated earlier yesterday by Governor Shafer,that the new expansion could nearly double that$100 million investment here over the next 10 years.
The newly announced millwill boost production of grain-oriented electrical (silicon) steels here by about 20 percent, he revealed. The project,a continuation of Project 600, ispart of a $52-million firststep,including $11 million for coldrolled,non-oriented electricalsteel at Zanesville (Ohio) Armco.Both are scheduled for completionby 1972.
Site work and final engineering on the additional Butlermill will begin immediately,Verity told a Chamber of Commerceaudience of more than660 last night at the Butler SeniorHigh School auditorium.Both projects were approvedearlier yesterday by the Armcoboard of directors, who methere for the dedication of the$80-million melt shop and auxiliaryfacilities by GovernorShafer.

He praised Butler as “a commmunitywhich offers an idealclimate for business,” pointingto the high degree of employe,community and government cooperation.
