The first snow forecast of the season is upon us.

As of Wednesday, the National Weather Service’s Pittsburgh office believed that rainy weather in Butler County would turn to snow sometime mid-afternoon Thursday.

That snow, according to meteorologist Pat Herald, won’t immediately start accumulating.

“Ground temperatures will still be too high,” Herald said.

But Thursday night, temperatures are expected to drop low enough for snow to build up. By Friday morning, at least some of Butler County may see about an inch of snow accumulated.

Friday may bring more snow showers, Herald said, but no more accumulation.

Rain is expected to return later Friday. Expect about a quarter-inch of rain between the two days, Herald said.

The possible snow will arrive by way of winds from the northwest coming off the Great Lakes.

For the next several days, the NWS predicted high temperatures in the 40s and overnight temperatures in the 20s.
