Police name driver, pedestrian hit in Moraine shopping plaza accident
BUTLER TWP — Police have identified two people involved in a vehicle-pedestrian accident at Moraine Pointe Plaza Friday afternoon.
According to Butler Township police, Jeanne Emanuele, 89, of Renfew was driving in the plaza near Harbor Freight Tools at around 1:45 p.m. Friday when she stopped her car at a stop sign. As she turned left, she failed to see two people, including one in a motorized wheelchair, crossing a two-lane travelway.
The vehicle first struck the person in the wheelchair before knocking down pedestrian David Gould, 32, of Butler. Gould was then dragged “a few feet” by Emanuele's vehicle and ended up under the driver's side rear tire of another vehicle traveling the other direction.
Gould was flown by Life Flight to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh at about 2 p.m. for treatment of a head injury and a broken pelvis, police said.
Neither the operator of the wheelchair, whom police did not identify, nor Emanuele were injured, police say.
Butler Ambulance Service and Butler Township firefighters assisted at the scene.
Township police are still investigating the accident.
