County GOP to select candidate for 8th District seat
A Republican candidate will be selected tonight to compete for the House of Representatives' 8th District.
The selection committee, comprised of 11 representatives from Mercer County and nine from Butler County, will meet at 6 p.m. at Grove City High School to decide upon a candidate.
Trish Lindsay, a co-vice chairwoman for the Butler County GOP, said at a private meeting Monday that 12 names have been raised as potential candidates.
She said the candidates spoke Monday night at a private meeting with the conferees.
She said the committee will likely see fewer candidates in the running at Thursday's meeting.
“I don't know how many will be nominated,” Lindsay said. “They will not all be nominated.”
Each candidate will have a brief chance to speak before the committee privately deliberates the selection.
The winning candidate needs 11 votes in their favor to be selected.
Check back with the Butler Eagle tonight or pick up Friday's Butler Eagle to find out who was selected.
