The Butler Arts Center hopes that play money turns to real money that supports its young artists.

“All proceeds go toward benefiting our kids' scholarship fund,” said Stephen Haley, the gallery director for the arts center.

Visitors will be able to gamble with fake money at the semi-formal fundraiser Feb. 27 in the center's gallery.

The door opens at 6 p.m. with visitors treated to a catered meal with some availability for beer and wine from local vendors.

Haley said another vendor is supplying the casino games and the dealers for those games.

“We'll have a poker table, a dice table and, I believe, a roulette wheel,” Haley said.

Haley said every cent spent by patrons will go toward the Associated Artists of Butler County Children's Scholarship Fund, which covers the cost of various art programs for local youths.

Haley said much of the money is spent on supplies for the children, so they can participate in the programs.

“We're trying to help out the less fortunate, and those (who) don't have the opportunity as much,” he said. “It's to give them a positive outlet.”

Along with the casino decor, the gallery will feature some local artists whose pieces will appear alongside artwork created by the students of local elementary schools.

Haley said he hopes the children's work will show patrons the value of their dollar on that night.

“It'll show them what they will be helping out,” he said.
