Butler Twp. supervisor on the mend after tractor accident
Butler Township Supervisor Sam Zurzolo is recovering following an accident on his farm last week.
Zurzolo said the lift bucket of a large tractor pinned his leg to the frame of the equipment. Zurzolo remained trapped until emergency crews arrived.
The accident resulted in a serious leg injury that required surgery at a Pittsburgh hospital.
Zurzolo later was transferred to Butler VA Healthcare System, where he is now resting and recovering.
“I can’t put any weight on it for six weeks,” he said. “I’ll be here probably a couple more weeks.”
Zurzolo said he will maintain his responsibilities as township supervisor, as well as all the other organizations in which he plays an active role.
“I’m still in contact with everybody,” he said. “If I need to be at a meeting, we could set up a conference call.”
County commissioners, his township colleagues and many other residents have called or visited him.
“I’m totally amazed,” he said. “I’m thankful to the residents of Butler County and the township for their concern.”
Zurzolo said he has a long road of recovery ahead, but he feels good about his odds with a great support system.
“I’m alive and thank the good Lord,” he said. “Must be keeping me around to do something.”
