Two injured after chain-reaction accident in downtown Butler

Two people were injured Wednesday morning in a four-vehicle, chain-reaction crash in downtown Butler when a tractor-trailer rear-ended a Chevrolet Malibu that was stopped for traffic in the southbound lane on South Main Street.

Two people were injured Wednesday morning in a four-vehicle, chain-reaction crash in downtown Butler, city police said.

The wreck occurred around 8:30 a.m. when a tractor-trailer rear-ended a Chevrolet Malibu that was stopped for traffic in the southbound lane on South Main Street.

The crash pushed the car into the back of a utility truck, which in turn pushed that truck into the back of a sport utility vehicle, police said.

The driver of the car, a man believed to be in his 50s, and the driver of the utility truck, a man in his 40s or 50s, were both taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries.

The car driver complained of neck and shoulder pain and the other driver of neck pain.

The wreck occurred, according to police, when the driver of the rig turned from East Jefferson Street onto South Main Street.

Police officers directed traffic at that intersection until a wrecker arrived and towed away the car, which sustained severe rear-end damage.
