2:09 a.m. Feb. 22 — David A. Vriendt, 46, of Butler allegedly was caught with a stolen laptop computer after he took off running near the Chestnut Inn on Chestnut Street.

A patrol officer first noticed Vriendt near the bar, which was closed for the night. Vriendt appeared to be holding a black laptop, according to court documents. But before the officer could get to him, he ran, police said.

The officer chased after him and eventually stopped him. He did not have the computer. But when police retraced the route the defendant took while running from police, documents said, the officer found the computer in front of a Dumpster on the Race Street side of the bar.

Police later contacted the computer owner, and learned that it turned up missing Feb. 21. The computer, which is valued at $750, was damaged in the chase, police noted.

Additionally, police learned that Vriendt was wanted on warrants.

[naviga:h3]Butler Twp Police[/naviga:h3]

Monday — Police charged Steven L. McCardle, 28, of Butler with vandalizing a home on Whitestown Road last month. He is accused of breaking windows at the house around 10 p.m. Feb. 15 with bricks reportedly stolen from another home. Damage was estimated at more than $1,900.

McCardle is charged with criminal mischief and receiving stolen property.

[naviga:h3]Penn Twp Police[/naviga:h3]

2:50 a.m. Feb. 18 — Police say they caught Grant C. Crawford, 19, of Cabot on West Airport Road in a car with suspected drug contraband and a bottle of beer, and two other teenagers, one of them 16 years old.

Crawford admitted that he drove there, according to court documents, “for the purpose of smoking marijuana.” A search of the vehicle turned up a drug smoking pipe, a marijuana grinder and a large bottle of beer.

He is charged with corruption of minors, possession of drug paraphernalia and underage possession of alcohol.

[naviga:h3]State Police, Butler[/naviga:h3]

Monday — Robyn R. McLean, 36, of Butler was charged with drugged driving stemming from a traffic stop last month in Butler. Police said she was pulled over around 1:50 a.m. Feb. 9 on Hansen Avenue near West New Castle Street.

McLean admitted that she had taken a prescription drug and smoked marijuana, and had consumed “part of an alcoholic beverage,” according to court documents. Police took her to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test. Toxicology results were not available.

She is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, driving with a suspended license, driving a vehicle with improper sunscreening and careless driving.

[naviga:h3]State Police, Mercer[/naviga:h3]

2:54 a.m. Feb. 22 — Demarco G. Francis, 20, of Oil City was arrested after he allegedly caused a disturbance at the Grove City Medical Center emergency room. He was taken there after police arrested him for driving under the influence in Butler County.

Francis was arraigned on charges of terroristic threats, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, public drunkenness and criminal mischief for the hospital incident. He was placed in the Mercer County Prison on $5,000 bond following arraignment.
