Commissioners respond to southwest regional designation

With another week of pandemic under way, Butler County officials are coping with its regional designation for economic reopening.

The county saw two additional positive cases and no deaths reported through the state Department of Health.

As Gov. Tom Wolf released a map over the weekend, breaking down the state into six regions with Butler County being in the southwest. The county's northern boundary represents the line between the southwest and northwest regions.

With this designation made, county commissioners are calling for regional collaborations and discussions.

County Commissioner Kevin Boozel said Butler County has spearheaded the effort to have a regional discussion to go along with Wolf's regional reopening approach.

“It's not a state decision. It's not a county decision. It's a collective decision,” Boozel said.
