Authorities identify still missing hiker who fell into Slippery Rock Creek
SLIPPERY ROCK TWP, Lawrence County — Two state park rangers scanned the banks of Slippery Rock Creek on Monday in search of a man who was reported to have fallen and swept away in the fast-moving current Saturday.
As of Monday afternoon, the man still hadn't been found. Authorities from the Moraine State Park office said the missing man's name is Jeffery Hanby, a 38-year-old from Meadville, Crawford County.
On Saturday, Hanby fell into Slippery Rock Creek from a hiking trail at McConnells Mill State Park and over the weekend firefighters, a drone, at least six dogs and search and rescue teams from Butler, Beaver, Lawrence and Allegheny counties looked along 4.5 miles of the creek's banks to look for the man.
The search led to nothing, according to earlier reports, and on Monday the search and rescue turned into a search and recovery with a significantly reduced number of people searching, according to Dustin Drew, the Moraine State Park manager.
