COVID-19 UPDATE 5/7: 5 new COVID-19 cases reported in county
Butler County reported five more positive COVID-19 cases Thursday, its largest increase in nearly three weeks.
According to data collected from the state Department of Health, Butler County's five new cases brings the largest spike since the county saw seven cases added to its total April 15.
Over the past two weeks, the county has seen 26 positive cases added to its total of 190. Butler County has an estimated total population of 180,000 people, according to the 2010 U.S. Census.
One of the core measurement state officials use to determine whether an area is ready to move from the red phase to the yellow has been that an area would have to have less than 50 cases per 100,000 residents. While not the only metric under consideration, state officials have stressed it would difficult to see a region reopening without passing that bar.
Gov. Tom Wolf is expected to hold a joint news conference with state Attorney General Josh Shapiro at 1 p.m. Thursday to announce homeowner and rental relief.
The following data about the coronavirus pandemic are compiled daily from the Pennsylvania Department of Health's website and regular releases from Butler Health System.
