Health secretary expected to release plans for long-term care facilities

The Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine is expected to unveil new plans for testing in long term facilities at her virtual news conference 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Gov. Tom Wolf briefly discussed the topic in a phone call with reporters Tuesday morning.

“Nursing homes are a problem all around the world,” Wolf said.

Wolf said Levine will discuss the state's plans in greater detail, but part of the plan involves testing employees and clients once per week at long term care facilities. He said this should complement the guidance and personal protective equipment the state has worked to provide for these facilities.

“There are a lot of long term care facilities in Pennsylvania,” Wolf said. “The testing is just one more thing we're doing.”

The following numbers about the coronavirus pandemic are compiled daily from the Pennsylvania Department of Health's website and regular releases from Butler Health System.
