COVID-19 Update 5/18: Butler County gains only 1 confirmed case since Friday

Butler County saw an increase of one confirmed case to its total number of COVID-19 cases.

The state Department of Health reported Monday that Butler County's case total rose by one case to 203 since its last update Friday. The county's death toll remained at six.

Gov. Tom Wolf is scheduled to conduct a virtual news conference at 1:30 p.m. with Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency Director Randy Padfield, followed by Secretary of Health Rachel Levine's daily update at 2:15 p.m.

Butler Health System's number of inpatients continues to fluctuate, but spokeswoman Jana Panther said Butler Memorial Hospital has seen manageable numbers.

Heading into the weekend, eight patients were seeking treatment at the hospital, one of whom was being treated in the Intensive Care Unit.

BHS reported on Monday that two patients were being treated at the hospital with still one patient in the ICU.

According to Panther, the more Butler Memorial Hospital and Clarion Hospital see manageable numbers of COVID-19 cases, the more comfortable administrators are with reopening more services, which they have undertaken in the past month.

“Safe scheduling, distancing and many other precautions are in place,” Panther said. “Seek care when you need it, including preventive health services such as screening mammography and colonoscopy. Your doctor will assess your risk and advise you what is best for your health.”

The following numbers on the coronavirus pandemic are compiled daily from the Department of Health's website and regular releases from Butler Health System.
