COVID-19 UPDATE 6/9: Virus could change the way people prepare for hurricane season
Butler County saw a single-digit increase in COVID-19 cases on the same day Gov. Tom Wolf's administration warned that severe weather preparations this summer could be affected by the pandemic.
According to Tuesday's state Department of Health report, Butler County saw five new cases added to its total of COVID-19 cases. The county's death toll remained at 12.
Also on Tuesday, administrators from the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency and the Department of Health conducted a news conference to warn the public that COVID-19 will change the way people prepare for serious storms this summer.
“The Atlantic hurricane season started just last week and while Pennsylvania doesn't often take a direct hit like coastal states, we face weather systems that can cause flooding or significant power outages,” said PEMA Executive Deputy Director Jeff Thomas in a Tuesday news release.
The following numbers on the coronavirus pandemic were compiled from the regular news releases from the state Department of Health.
