12:01 p.m. June 19 — Nathan T. Melhorn, 35, of Sandy Lake, was arrested after he allegedly assaulted a co-worker at a business on West Main Street. He was arraigned on a charge of simple assault and placed in the Mercer County Jail on $25,000 bond.

Police noted that Melhorn also was wanted on a bench warrant out of Butler County for failing to appear at a court hearing.

4:26 p.m. Saturday — A one-car wreck left two people injured, one seriously, after the vehicle hydroplaned on Interstate 79 north just south of Sawyer Road in Muddy Creek Township, striking a concrete drainage grate and rolling over. The car landed back on its wheels.

One of two passengers, Dakan Jimale Farah, 48, of Erie, suffered serious injuries. The driver, Edmen Shukri Abdi, 22, of Erie, suffered minor injuries. Both were taken to UPMC Passavant in Cranberry Township. Police cited Shukri Abdi for driving too fast for conditions.

12:56 p.m. June 24 — Two people were injured in a two-vehicle crash on Route 356 in Jefferson Township. The wreck occurred when a sport utility vehicle driven by Kathy L. Kasenter, 52, of Butler, while making a turn collided with a pickup truck driven by Debra A. Rager, 53, of Cabot.

Kasenter and her passenger, Thomas R. Bush, 25, of Butler, were taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries. Both vehicles had to be towed. Police cited Kasenter for making an improper left turn.

8:35 p.m. June 23 — A car driven by a 16-year-old Butler boy rolled over on O’Hara Road in Jefferson Township. Neither the boy nor his passenger, also a 16-year-old Butler boy, was injured. Police did not release the name of the driver, who was cited for driving without a license.

9:15 p.m. June 21 — Nathan C. Ligus, 41, of Slippery Rock was arrested for driving under the influence after a traffic stop on Mercer Road near Blossom Drive in Center Township.

Police said Ligus was later taken for a breath test, which showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.237 percent, according to court documents, nearly three times the state’s 0.08 percent legal limit.

In addition to DUI, he is charged with speeding, failing to keep right, disregarding traffic lanes, careless driving and not wearing a seat belt.

June 18 — Carol A. Chambers, 43, of Butler, was charged with drugged driving stemming from a May crash in Eau Claire. Police said she drove her SUV into the corner of the building housing Hunter Truck Sales on East Main Street around 5:20 p.m. May 29.

Troopers found Chambers asleep in the driver’s seat. The key was in the ignition and in the “on” position, according to court documents. The vehicle and building corner both had heavy damage, police said.

The defendant was subsequently taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test, which indicated she had “multiple controlled substances“ in her system, documents said.

Chambers is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, careless driving, reckless driving, disregarding traffic lanes, driving too fast for conditions, driving a vehicle without insurance, and driving a vehicle without valid inspection.
