Body recovered of missing hiker at McConnells Mill

Park rangers search in early May for Jeffrey Hanby II of Crawford County who fell in Slippery Rock Creek May 2 while hiking at McConnell's Mill State Park.

According to state park officials, the body of Jeffery Hanby II, 38, of Meadville, Pa., has been found.

Dustin Drew, park manager for Moraine and McConnells Mill state parks, released a statement around 6:45 p.m. Thursday reporting that Hanby's body had been found earlier that afternoon in McConnells Mill State Park.

“We are thankful to bring this closure to the family and friends and greatly appreciate the assistance throughout from numerous rescue and first responder organizations,” Drew's statement said.

The finding concludes a search effort that began May 2, the same day Hanby slipped from a rock and fell into Slippery Rock Creek in the Lawrence County park while hiking with his fiancée.

Tiffany Kearns, a relative of Hanby, relayed the information in a private Facebook Group formed to organize community searches.

“The details are slim at the moment, and once we know more, we will let you all know,” she said in the post. “I would again like to thank each and every one of you that have helped us all throughout this nightmare. Your efforts do not go overlooked.”
