This is a breaking news report — subscribe online or in print to read the full article.Butler County Board of Commissioners approved applying for millions of dollars in loans to fund infrastructure projects around the county.Officials approved a $5.175 million loan application to the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Bank during their Wednesday meeting.The majority of the funding, $2,955,010, would go toward the Route 228 corridor project in southern Butler County. The project would include the expanding Freedom Road, also known as Route 3020, between Haine-School Road to Commonwealth Drive in Cranberry Township to four lanes. The project would also create turning lanes in both directions.The funding would serve as the local match to a $20 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to improve the Route 228 corridor, including the Balls Bend Realignment Project in Middlesex Township.The rest of the loan would go toward replacing four bridges in the county. A sum of $434,000 would be used for the Hemphill Bridge on Goldscheitter Road in Clinton Township. There would be $473,000 for Greece City Bridge on Old State Road in Concord Township. And $690,000 for McBride Bridge 1 and $623,000 for McBride Bridge 2, both on Dalmagro Road in Clearfield Township.
