Want results? All sides should work together for good

Some days our messages get mixed together with that of a higher power when it isn’t intentional.

Today is Aug. 28, and to persons who study the Bible, that corresponds with the 8th chapter of Romans and the 28th verse. The Scripture reads “and we know that all good things work together for good to those who love God, to them who are called according to his purpose.”

Most likely the readership of the Eagle is predominantly Christian, but these verses and their meaning are not restricted to just one faith.

As we continue down this rocky pathway of 2020, it is easy to wonder where is God and why is he letting all of this control our lives. This isn’t going to be a sermon, as we aren’t qualified nor educated in a manner to justifiably explain God’s will, either hidden or revealed.

But what is apparent in today’s world is that we are working against one another for the good or success of a political party as opposed to being good for all people.

The two political conventions have been filled with hate, lies and evil. That comment is directed at both parties. There are no believable persons on the front of these stages. There are no agendas meant to help everyone. Each and every issue is one-sided with the hope that the other side meets complete failure and destruction.

Choosing the lesser of two evils is a lock with two months to go. The winner will immediately be attacked by the losing party screaming impeach him or lock him up. The loser will refuse to accept the results and four years later will be whining about having won the vote based on all people wearing purple or gold shirts.

It sounds crazy because this process is now completely nuts. We need a good-old fashioned lecture from our grandmothers. The one where she tells you to be nice to everyone, not just the ones you like, not just the ones you look like and not just the ones who believe as you do.

This very short and simple verse from the King James Version of the New Testament speaks to all of us on the issue: All Good Things Work Together For Good.

Are you working for good, or for your own satisfaction? Don’t confuse the two. Neither party has a stronghold on truth or trust. Most of us received good, honest and fair advice from our grandparents who mostly had stronger belief systems than people do today.

Whether it is how to deal with COVID, the economy, the election, or any of the other multitude of problems we have, we probably could get better results if we all worked together for good.
