BLT season set to roll with 'Twelve Angry Men'
Butler Little Theatre has cast the first show of its 2020-21 season, and the actors have begun rehearsing.
The first show in the delayed-start season will be “Twelve Angry Men,” a drama in which 12 jurors must decide the fate of a 19-year-old murder suspect.
Dates for the play are Nov. 13-15 and 17-21 at the theater at One Howard St. in downtown Butler.
The season typically would have started in September.
“We're playing it day by day because we don't know what else might happen, but for now we're good to go,” said BLT treasurer Bonnie Cahill.
The BLT season was cut short in the spring because of the coronavirus pandemic.
In an effort to socially distance during rehearsals, the actors are sitting around a very large jury table, said Cahill.
“I don't know if we'll keep it because it takes up the whole stage,” she noted. “We might have to cut it down.”
The jurors are actually made up of men and women for the BLT production. Cahill said BLT has staged this play before, but not with a mixed cast. There is a version with all women but that is not the script BLT is using, she said.
“It takes a fine touch to not make it a man versus woman thing,” Cahill said. “It's a fascinating study in people.”
Producers for this show are Sis Fleming and Stephanie Kobil. The director is Dennis Casey.
Curtain times are 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, 2:30 p.m. Sunday, and 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Cahill said the theatre will be at half-capacity, so that every other seat can be empty, though patrons who come in can sit together. Wearing masks is required.
The actors are wearing masks during rehearsal but will not be wearing masks during the show.

The remainder of the 2020-21 season is as follows:
- “Marjorie Prime,” Jan. 8-10, 12-16, exploring the mysteries of human identity and the limits, if any, of what technology can replace;
- “Outside Mulligar,” March 5-7, 9-13, a funny, compassionate work about how it's never too late to take a chance on love;
- “Broadway Bound,” April 30-May 2, 4-8, Neil Simon's trilogy ending play about Eugene and his brother trying to break into show business;
- “Clue on Stage,” June 18-20, 22-26, a stormy night at an unusual party where the host is dead.
