Authorities are investigating the weekend death of a 39-year-old Butler County man following a vehicle crash in Forest County.

But state police do not believe Lawrence E. Treadway Jr., of Connoquenessing Township, died of injuries in the crash about 6:40 a.m. Sunday in Tionesta.

“We really don’t know why he died,” Forest County Norman Wimer said Tuesday. “The cause and matter of death are undetermined.”

An autopsy is planned Thursday by Dr. Eric Vey, Erie County’s forensic pathologist.

Investigators said Treadway was driving south on Route 62 near the Tionesta State Fish Hatchery when his 1999 Ford-150 pickup went off the right side of the road and struck a utility pole. The cause of the wreck was unknown.
