Penguins trade Matt Murray to Ottawa Senators

The Penguins got the action started on the second day of the NHL draft by trading goaltender Matt Murray to the Ottawa Senators. Pittsburgh got a second-round pick, 52nd overall, and forward prospect Jonathan Gruden for Murray.

The Pittsburgh Penguins announced at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday that the team has traded goalie Matt Murray to the Ottawa Senators.

In return, the Penguins have acquired a 2020 second-round draft pick and signed forward Johnathan Gruden through the 2022-2023 season.

The announcement was made by Penguins Vice President and General Manager Jim Rutherford.

“We would like to thank Matt for everything he's done in his five seasons with the Penguins,” said Rutherford in a media release. “He was instrumental to our back-to-back Stanley Cup Championships, and we wish him the best.”
