A fun event on Wednesday raised money for Rotary International's “End Polio Now” campaign.

Turkey Bowling in Diamond Park involved county officials and employees, Rotary members and anyone strolling past the park pay $5 to slide a frozen bird down a makeshift bowling lane in an attempt to knock down the pins.

County Commissioners Leslie Osche and Kevin Boozel, Sheriff Mike Slupe, Director of Parks and Recreation Lance Welliver and others scored strikes and spares in the mirthful event, which was held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in front of the General Richard Butler statue.

A special guest at the event was polio survivor Joe Randig, whose wife, Linda, earned a strike during her toss.

Small prizes were awarded to turkey tossers, including candy bags, cigars and ball caps.

Turkey Bowling in Diamond Park raised about $500 for polio eradication. The Rotary Clubs in Butler County have raised $500,000 toward the cause over the years.

The Butler A.M. and P.M. Rotary clubs organized the turkey bowling event, and will compete against one another in actual bowling on Wednesday night.

The loser of that competition will match the amount raised at Turkey Bowling in Diamond Park.
