Butler Area, Seneca Valley announce more cases of COVID
The Butler Area and Seneca Valley school districts have announced additional cases of COVID-19 among staff and students this week.
Butler Area on Tuesday posted an alert to its website and informed parents that an individual in the district's Intermediate High School disclosed to the district that they had tested positive for the novel virus.
The district said the person had close contact with adults in the district who have been notified and “are not present at our schools.” BASD declined to share further details, such as whether the person was symptomatic, whether it was a student or staff and when their last day in school was, citing privacy laws.
BASD has announced three positive COVID-19 cases, which have occurred since Oct. 23.
On Monday, Seneca Valley alerted parents that two staff members in the district had tested positive for the illness. The district says the two cases are “separate and unrelated.”
One case is a K-6 Seneca Valley Academy of Choice cyber teacher, who was present in Haine Middle School on Oct. 14. The parent communication states that the district believes the teacher was exposed Oct. 19 at an external event, and the teacher tested positive Oct. 23.
In this case, the district said, there were no close contacts.
Also, a special/elective teacher at Ryan Gloyer Middle School tested positive Sunday. That person has not been in the building since Thursday. According to the district, the teacher had no close contacts with students, but staff who have been impacted were notified and are self-isolating until they receive their COVID-19 test results.
The two cases announced Monday bring Seneca Valley to eight cases among students and staff this academic year.
