Mother accused of shooting son in leg

She also threatened to stab him, police say

A Clearfield Township woman is in jail on $250,000 bond after police said she shot her 15-year-old son in the leg.

State police charged Jenny Lenea Gaiser, 37, with first- and second-degree felony aggravated assault, along with misdemeanors terroristic threats, endangering the welfare of a child, simple assault and reckless endangerment following what is portrayed as an altercation that started with Gaiser's son pouring beer into the toilet and ended with her allegedly shooting him through a bedroom door.

According to state police, Gaiser began drinking alcohol when she arrived home Tuesday evening, and after some time the 15-year-old started dumping Gaiser's beer into the toilet. That, police said, made Gaiser upset and when her son took her keys, Gaiser began punching him in an attempt to get her keys back.Gaiser then threatened to stab her son with scissors, a state police affidavit stated. She then “hit him a couple times in the leg” with a pair of scissors, but they were too dull to cause injury.State police said Gaiser “broke through” her bedroom door to grab a .22 caliber rifle. Her son asked Gaiser multiple times to put the gun down before closing her bedroom door and trying to hold it shut. Gaiser told her son that she would shoot through the door if he did not move from it, according to police. She made good on that threat, according to state troopers. Gaiser's son heard a gunshot and felt pain in his leg, then ran to a neighbor's house for help.Police arrived at the scene slightly after 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, shortly before the son was flown to UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh by helicopter, where he was treated and is in stable condition with a gunshot wound in his left thigh. After obtaining a search warrant, state police found a spent casing in Gaiser's bedroom, along with a small circular hole in her bedroom door and a pair of scissors atop a living room table. When state police interviewed Gaiser around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, she said she had accidentally shot her son, according to police.Gaiser remains in Butler County Prison in lieu of $250,000 bond. Court records do not indicate if she is represented by an attorney.
