Speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in a motorcycle crash Sunday evening in Parker that killed a 46-year-old Butler area man, authorities said.

John L. Penrod died about 5:10 p.m. when he lost control of the Harley-Davidson he was driving, according to Armstrong County Coroner Brian Myers. He was not wearing a helmet.

Investigators said Penrod was traveling south on Washington Street when the cycle went off the road, through a yard, and overturned. Myers pronounced Penrod dead at the scene.

The cause of the accidental death was listed as multiple blunt force trauma. There was no autopsy but standard toxicology tests will be conducted. Results are expected in a few weeks, Myers said.

State police are investigating the crash but an accident report was not immediately available. The Parker Volunteer Fire Department, the Armstrong County Sheriff's Office and Emlenton Ambulance assisted at the scene.
