AHN cancer center picks surgical oncology leader

Dr. Patrick Wagner, a surgical oncologist with expertise in treating complex abdominal cancers, was selected to join the Allegheny Health Network Cancer Institute as director of complex general surgical oncology.

Wagner comes to AHN from Winchester Medical Center, where he served in a similar role. Winchester is the hub of a six-hospital health system in Virginia’s northern Shenandoah Valley and the eastern panhandle of West Virginia.

There, Wagner also co-managed a hospital-owned practice and directed the health system’s accreditation from the National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer as well as its designation as a National Cancer Institute — NCI Community Oncology Research Program research affiliate of Virginia Commonwealth University’s Massey Cancer Center.

“Dr. Wagner brings an impressive combination of exceptional surgical skills and programmatic leadership to the AHN Cancer Institute,” said Dr. David Bartlett, cancer institute chairman. “We are excited to welcome him to our team and look forward to the continuing success and innovation of our surgical oncology program under his direction.”
