COVID-19 UPDATE 12/10: Butler COVID-19 cases set record for 2nd straight day

Butler County has topped its daily COVID-19 record for new cases for the second straight day.

According to Thursday's report by the Pennsylvania Department of Health, Butler County added 160 confirmed cases, breaking a record of 128 cases added Wednesday. This is the third time in the past week the record has been broken.

In addition to the new cases, the data also showed six new deaths attributed to county residents.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 4,178 residents have tested positive for COVID-19 and 110 have died from the virus.

Gov. Tom Wolf and Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine are scheduled to conduct a virtual news briefing at 4 p.m. Thursday on COVID-19 updates.

“They will encourage Pennsylvanians to stay vigilant and continue taking precautions to keep themselves and their families safe,” said the media advisory.

Wolf revealed Wednesday that he had tested positive for COVID-19. A Thursday news release said first lady Frances Wolf tested negative for the virus, but will continue to quarantine at home with her husband.

“Tom and I are grateful for the well-wishes and support we have received,” Frances Wolf said.
