Mary Dumbaugh

Mary Dumbaugh

Mary Gladys Dumbaugh, 91, of Butler joined her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Dec. 4, 2020, from Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Butler.

She was the daughter of the late Clyde E. Bartley and Gladys (Walters) Bartley.

Mary graduated from Butler High School and Grove City College.

She worked as a medical technologist at Butler Hospital, and other medical facilities.

She was very active and enjoyed snow skiing, backpacking, hiking, water skiing, biking and swimming, until her sudden health decline in her early 70s.

Faith was very important in her life. She was a member of Christ Community United Methodist Church in Butler, and formerly a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church in Butler. Mary was very active in the United Methodist Women, serving as president of the Butler district. She also served as a mission ambassador to Guyana, South America and Cuba.

Mary loved traveling and visited most of the states, and over 30 foreign countries, including China, Australia, New Zealand, Bali, Israel, Jordan, Germany, Austria, Great Britain, Ireland, Sweden, Canada and Mexico.

After her love for the Lord, her other greatest loves were her family. She poured herself into loving and nurturing all her dear ones, and was never too busy to help. She taught by example how to give sacrificially. She will be forever missed by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her two daughters, the Rev. Kathleen A. Mikesell (Robert) of Negley, Ohio, formerly of Butler, and Suzan I. Herold (Edward) of West Sunbury; and one son, Brad E. Dumbaugh (Tammy) of Butler.

She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Jeremy (Hannah) Mikesell of Danbury, Conn., Jennine (Mikesell) Chase (Peter) of Yardley, Pa., James (Jordan) Mikesell of Cranberry Township, Michelle (Nick) Kujbus of West Sunbury, April (Mike) Bump of Butler, Matt (Leigh) Herold of Butler, David (Jamie) Dumbaugh of Butler, Eric (Alexis) Dumbaugh of Butler, and Faren (Phillip) Slater of Butler.

Also surviving are 22 great-grandchildren, Ewan and Declan Mikesell, Alice and Virginia Chase, Elena and Owen Mikesell, Emma and Ryder Snow, Bailey, Levi and Callen Kujbus, Rohan, Deryk and Gabriel Herold, Ashleigh Lumley, Hope Herold, Brady and Ally Dumbaugh, Addison and Paige Dumbaugh, Mason Swidzinski and Faith Hope Slater.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rex E. Dumbaugh, whom she married Dec. 9, 1950, and who died May 21, 1998; her parents; two brothers, Chester Bartley and Calvin Bartley; and a grandson, Christopher Snow.

A special thank you to all the heroes on the Sunflower Unit at Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, who lovingly cared for her and became her family during these last 10 pandemic months, when we were unable to be there with her. We will forever be grateful!
