Dominic Virgallito Jr.
Dominic Virgallito Jr., 93, of Butler passed away on Dec. 11, 2020, at Concordia Lutheran Ministries.
He was born on July 2, 1927, in Sharon, Pa., and was the son of the late Dominic Virgallito and the late Rosannina Flocco Virgallito.
Dominic served in the U.S. Army from August of 1945 to April of 1947.He graduated from Sharon High School in 1945. Dominic graduated from Clarion State Teachers College in 1951 with a bachelor's degree in education. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a master's degree in education in 1958.Dominic was employed in 1952 by the Butler Area School District and worked there for 37 years. He taught grades six and seven at Lyndora School, and then was appointed as an elementary principal from 1959 to 1989, where he was assigned to the Broad Street Elementary School and the West End Elementary School. He was also assigned to the Connoquenessing Elementary School in 1984.Dominic was a member of the Trinity Presbyterian Church.He was a life member of the Butler Elks Lodge 170.Dominic was an avid golfer and enjoyed singing in barbershop choruses and the Butler County Festival Choir. He was vice-president and corps director of the General Butler Vagabonds Drum and Bugle Corps from 1966 to 1976.Dominic is survived by his son, Larry (Debra) Virgallito of Renfrew; one grandson, Chad Hoskins of Virginia Beach, Va.; one sister, Minnie Kacerski of Sharon; and numerous nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, DeRose Laughlin Virgallito, whom he married on Feb. 14, 1952, and who passed away on Dec. 17, 1995, and two sisters, Katherine Marinoff and Josephine Huffman.VIRGALLITO — There will be no public visitation or funeral for Dominic Virgallito Jr., who died Friday, Dec. 11, 2020.Entombment took place at the Chapel of Devotion Mausoleum in Butler County Memorial Park.Arrangements are under the direction of Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Butler.Memorials donations are suggested to the donor's favorite charity.Online condolences can be given at www.thompson-miller.com.
