Alvin George “Al” Rettig, 94, of Cabot went to be with his Savior on Dec. 21, 2020, at Concordia Lutheran Ministries.

He was born Nov. 8, 1926, in Butler, and was the son of the late Adolph A. Rettig and the late Helen A. Protzman.

Alvin served his country and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy.He spent most of his working career at Armco Steel, and retired in 1983.He was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Cabot, where he assisted in the Marriage Encounter, Pre-Cana programs, and mentored young people. Alvin was an usher, past trustee, and was on the building committee at the church. He also supervised the operations of the St. Luke and Gruenwald cemeteries. He enjoyed Western-style square dancing, playing pinochle, wood working and traveling to see loved ones.Al is survived by his children, Robert A. Rettig and his wife, Carol, of Frederick, Md., Bonnie S. Isovitsch and her husband, George, of Chocowinity, N.C., and Roger A. Rettig and his wife, Nancy, of Butler; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one brother, Arnold L. Rettig of Jonesboro, Ga.; and many nieces and nephews.We remember and honor those who preceded him in death, his beloved wife, Bertha; his daughter, Margaret Meindl; his son-in-law, Paul Meindl; and a number of brothers and sisters.RETTIG — A private burial for Alvin George “Al” Rettig, who died Monday, Dec. 21, 2020, was held for the immediate family at the graveside at Gruenwald Cemetery.Those interested in attending a future memorial service for Alvin may contact the family at rettigfamily1108@gmail.com.Arrangements were handled by Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E.
