COVID-19 Update 1/26: State sees downturn in cases and deaths, vaccine availability still an issue
New state health officials introduced themselves during Tuesday's state COVID-19 update, which largely reiterated the fact that there isn't enough vaccine to go around.
“We assumed we were going to have an expanded supply when we went to the 65 and older,” Wolf said. “That didn't materialize.”
Acting Secretary of Health Allison Beam drew upon the words of her predecessor, Dr. Rachel Levine, who is now serving as assistant secretary of health for President Joe Biden's administration.
“We remain laser-focused on saving lives and getting Pennsylvanians vaccinated,” Beam said.
While health officials explained the vaccine distribution delay, largely still revolving around the vaccines' manufacturing, Wolf also commented on signs that the spread of the virus is slowing in the state.
“We've seen a real downturn in terms of cases and deaths,” Wolf said.
