COVID-19 UPDATE 2/1: Cases, Deaths, positivity rate continue decline over weekend
Butler County's decline in COVID-19 cases continued through the weekend.
According to the Pennylvania Department of Health, the county reported the deaths of three residents over the past three days, including two Saturday, zero Sunday and one Monday.
Over that same time period, the county added 91 new confirmed cases, including 20 Saturday, 37 Sunday and 34 Monday.
These numbers continue a downward trend in recent weeks for the county.
For the month of January, the county averaged about 61 new confirmed cases and about four deaths per day. In the past seven days, the county averaged about 29 new confirmed cases and about two deaths per day.
The county's decline has also shown in other numbers too, such as its percent positivity rate, listed at 8.6% for the most recent week of Jan. 22 through Thursday. That is a 3% decrease from the week before.
The statewide percent positivity rate has also been declining. This week, the Department of Health is reporting at 9.6%., a decrease of about 1.1%.
“While our statewide positivity rate is decreasing, we are still reporting new cases of COVID-19 and the department is trying our best to reach those Pennsylvanians to find where they went and who they came in contact with to notify, educate and monitor close contacts,” said Acting Secretary of Health Alison Beam. “That's why we need residents to answer the call.”
