Weather closes some schools, but no major incidents yet
Early morning weather forced some Butler County school districts to close and others to move to remote learning.
Butler County remains in a winter storm warning, according to the National Weather Service of Pittsburgh until 1 p.m. Tuesday.
The weather service's forecast includes “heavy mixed precipitation” with snow accumulation estimates ranging from four to seven inches and ice accumulations of up to two-tenths of an inch.
“Travel could be very difficult,” the warning said. “The hazardous conditions could impact the morning and evening commute.”
According to state police and the Butler County 911 center, there have been only a couple reported accidents, which appeared to be minor.
PennDOT District 10 imposed a number of travel restrictions, starting Sunday night. The department has imposed its Tier 1 restrictions, which prohibits some commercial vehicles, trailers and recreational vehicles.
County roads affected by this restriction, include I-79, I-80 and the Turnpike.
PennDOT also announced at around 10:45 a.m. Monday that the speed limit on I-80 will be temporarily reduced from the Ohio state line through Clearfield County.

The latest information for school closures includes Allegheny-Clarion Valley, Act 80 Day (teachers working, but no classes); Butler, no school; Butler County Vocation Technical, remote learning; Freeport, remote learning; Karns City, scheduled vacation day, no school; Mars, remote learning; Moniteau, remote learning; Seneca Valley, remote learning; Slippery Rock, scheduled vacation day, no school; South Butler, no school.
Butler County Community College also closed all of its locations on Monday. Classes are canceled starting at noon on Monday and all day and evening on Tuesday.
