Power outage affects businesses, traffic
Many downtown employees started their Wednesday morning in the dark.
A two-hour power outage about 8 a.m. affected Main Street in Butler from Jefferson Street south and a few blocks to the west to Chestnut Street.
Todd Meyers, West Penn Power spokesman, said a fuse blew at the Diamond Street substation near Michelle Krill Field at Historic Pullman Park.
About 700 customers were affected.
Crews responded to reset the fuse, and power was back up and running by about 9:45 a.m., Meyers said.
Traffic in the area of the outage used the blinking red or yellow lights to navigate the streets.
Most downtown homes and businesses north of the Jefferson Street intersection and streets to the east of Main Street were not affected.
