Butler cops investigate suspected stabbing
Butler police are investigating a suspected stabbing Monday night that left a city man hospitalized in Pittsburgh with upper-chest injuries.
The injuries are believed to be serious, but are not considered life-threatening.
Police have refused to comment about the incident that occurred around 11:30 p.m. apparently during a domestic dispute at the couple's house on the 300 block of Second Street.
No one has been charged, and no one was in custody as of 3 p.m. Wednesday.
“Police are declining comment due to the ongoing investigation,” said Lt. Detective Chad Rensel, who is the lead investigator.
A call Wednesday to the county assistant district attorney reviewing the case was not immediately returned.
While police aren't talking, some details of their investigation are provided in a search warrant they obtained Tuesday for the couple's home.
The document identified the victim as Philip Lefevre, 55, and his wife as Dhana Lefevre, 52. A 911 call from the couple's 15-year-old son, who lives there, sent police to the two-story house.
Patrol officers found Philip lying on the second floor. He was on his stomach with his upper body in the hallway and his lower body extending into the bathroom.
“Lefevre did not appear able to speak with officers or roll onto his side as requested,” according to a police affidavit filed with the warrant. His breathing was described as “labored.”
Officers were able to roll the man onto his side and examine his wound. There was a pool of blood underneath his upper body.
“His shirt was coated in thick red blood on the upper left side of his chest,” the affidavit said, “and there was also thick blood caked into his goatee.”
The document noted that police found Dhana Lefevre in the nearby master bedroom. Officers also found a fixed-blade knife with a 3- to 4-inch, double-sided blade in the bedroom.
The knife was on a table, and there was “fresh blood on the blade,” the affidavit said.
Butler Ambulance Service and city fire department medics arrived and tended to Philip Lefevre. The medics applied pressure to his wound, and he eventually was carried out.
The ambulance crew requested a medical helicopter to be ready “due to the grievous nature of the wound,” the document said.
Dhana, according to the affidavit, made several unsolicited statements about what happened. One of the those statements, “I hope he dies,” was noted in the document.
Outside the house, officers spoke to Dhana's adult daughter. She said her mother had called her on the telephone after the incident and admitted to stabbing Philip, the affidavit said.
The daughter reportedly went to the house to take care of her younger brother, the 15-year-old.
The boy told police, according to the affidavit, that he had been sleeping on the living room couch when he heard his father enter the house and later go upstairs.
At some point, the document said, the boy heard “loud banging on the bedroom door” and then heard his father yell, “You're killing me!”
The boy recounted that he walked half way up the steps and saw his mother “walk out of the bathroom holding a knife,” the affidavit said, “and his father laying in the bathroom floor.” The boy called 911.
Police in the document noted that the door frame of the master bedroom was damaged “as if Philip was attempting to gain access to that room.”
Investigators sought the search warrant, the document said, to collect all evidence of the suspected stabbing, cellphones belonging to the involved parties, biological evidence and any video surveillance from security cameras in or around the house.
The Butler Eagle could not reach Dhana Lefevre for comment.
