COVID UPDATE 2/25: Increasing number of county residents receive vaccine
The number of county residents receiving COVID-19 vaccinations is increasing, along with the rest of the state.
According to the Pennsylvania Department of Health, the number of county residents who received one dose of the vaccine climbed to 16,715 on Thursday, while the number of people who have received both doses, and are considered fully covered, reached 11,450.
Statewide, 2,147,135 doses have been administered, including 1,531,194 first doses and 615,941 second doses.
The number of new cases in the county increased by 18 to 8,871, and two new deaths raised the total to 367.
Across the state, 2,356 new cases brings the total to 922,990, and 81 new deaths brings the total to 23,868.
There are 1,972 people hospitalized, including 433 in intensive care. Most hospitalizations and deaths have occurred in people age 65 and older.
The 14-day average number of people hospitalized per day is about 3,800 lower than it was at the peak on Dec. 25, 2020, but just below what it was at the height of the spring peak on May 3, 2020.
In nursing and personal-care homes statewide, 66,442 residents and 12,935 employees have the virus. Of the total deaths, 12,355 have occurred in residents from nursing or personal-care facilities. About 24,617 cases are among health care workers.
