Man charged with beating pregnant girlfriend, killing unborn child

Large

A 19-year-old Butler man has been charged with killing an unborn child.

Damien M. Large was arraigned Tuesday night on charges of homicide of an unborn child and aggravated assault to an unborn child, among other charges in the alleged beating of the mother.

In a separate incident, Large has been in Butler County Prison on $50,000 bail since Jan. 3, when he was arrested and charged with allegedly beating his 33-year-old girlfriend with a hammer in a Butler Township motel. In that case, he was charged with felony aggravated assault and strangulation, among other charges.

According to a Butler Township police news release Wednesday, the girlfriend was 36 weeks pregnant when she was assaulted in a previous incident on Christmas Day.

“The assault led to the death of the unborn child,” police said.

The charges filed in January have proceeded to the Butler County Common Pleas Court, and Large is due in court for a status conference April 7.

Separate charges have been filed in the latest case.
