COVID UPDATE 4/8/21: County eclipses 10,000 COVID-19 cases 60 contract virus, 1 death reported

The number of county residents who have contracted COVID-19 since the pandemic began surpassed 10,000 Thursday.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health reported the county had 10,016 confirmed cases, an increase of 60 from Wednesday, and one additional death, bringing the total to 389.

Statewide, 4,746 new, positive cases raises the total to 1,059,044, and 42 new deaths brings the total to 25,327 deaths.

There are 2,425 people hospitalized, including 484 people in intensive care. The 14-day average number of people hospitalized per day is about 4,000 lower than it was at the peak in December 2020 and lower than what it was at the height of the spring peak in May 2020. However, the moving average of number of hospitalized patients has started to increase.

About 26,768 of the total cases in the state are among health care workers.

In licensed nursing and personal care homes, 69,684 residents and 14,417 employees have COVID-19. Of the total deaths in the state, 12,968 have been residents of nursing or personal care facilities.

The department also reported a total of 5,905,787 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered, including 3,936,654 first and single doses and 1,969,133 second doses.

In the county, 18,036 people have been partially vaccinated and 47,480 people have been fully vaccinated.
