John O'Brien Jr.

John Joseph O’Brien Jr., 83, of Michigan City, Ind., died at 8:53 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2021, at Life Care Center of Michigan City of age related causes.

John was born Feb. 15, 1938, in Butler, to John Sr. and Mildred (Megan) O’Brien.

John is survived by his wife, Cecilia O’Brien; his stepson, Derrick Love of Texas; his brother, Robert O’Brien of Butler; his brother, Larry O’Brien and his wife, Patty, of Eugene, Ore., and their two sons, Patrick and his wife, Jennifer, of Seattle, Wash., and Timothy of Portland, Ore.

He is also survived by his nieces, Ann Hennon and her son, Luke Hennon, of Grove City, and Ellen DeMucci of St. Louis, Mo.

John graduated from Notre Dame College in 1960, with a degree in chemical engineering.

After college, he worked as an employee for Bethlehem Steel for 30 years.

John was an avid runner, who had run many marathons. He also enjoyed basketball. He was a music enthusiast, and especially enjoyed doo-wop and jazz music.

He will be remembered for being a generous and compassionate person. His faith was very important to him.

He will be greatly missed.

O’BRIEN — Funeral services for John Joseph O’Brien Jr., who died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2021, were held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, 2021, at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens, Michigan City, Ind.

Arrangements were handled by Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Michigan City, Ind.
