Raymond Schmitt Sr.

Raymond A. “Ray” Schmitt Sr., 83, of Saxonburg, formerly of Shaler, passed peacefully on March 14, 2021.

Born on Aug. 17, 1937, in Pittsburgh, Ray was the son of the late Joseph and Anna Raspaski Schmitt.

He was the life partner of Lois Sapariti; the beloved father of Christine (Monty) Roman of Shaler, Raymond (Debbie) Schmitt of Rockwood, Geri (David) Sutherland of Beaver and Sharon Schmitt of McCandless; the proud grandfather of Rebecca and Rachael Roman; and the proud stepgrandfather of Christopher, Sarah and Jonah Schmidt, and Vivian Riggins.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Catherine Schmitt, Cecilia Jonnet, Dorothy Borris, Agnes Wetzel and Sister Jane Schmitt, OSF; and one brother, Joseph Schmitt Jr.

A U.S. Army veteran, Ray was a school bus contractor who owned and operated Allegheny Valley Transit and Southern Transit for more than 25 years.He was a well-respected businessman, an amazing father and an overall great guy, who was loved by all who knew him.Ray enjoyed traveling to Aruba and to the Cayman Islands. His grandchildren were the apple of his eye.SCHMITT — Friends of Raymond A. “Ray” Schmitt Sr., who died Sunday, March 14, 2021, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, 2021, at Schellhaas Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 5864 Heckert Road, Bakerstown.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Sepulcher Church.Interment will follow in St. Anthony Cemetery, Shaler.Please offer condolences at www.schellhaasfh.com.
