3 candidates in running for 2 seats in Adams Twp
Three Republican candidates have filed to run for two supervisor seats in Adams Township.
While one seat is a full, six-year term, the second will be filled by someone finishing the remainder of former supervisor Clay Morrow's term.
Morrow died in 2020, at which time Morrow's close friend, Darryl Brandon, was appointed to fill his spot on the supervisor board.Brandon, 66, is officially running for the four years left on Morrow's term.“During my time in office, I've seen the incredible capacity of the township staff and supervisors to adapt to ensure all necessary services are provided to the community,” Brandon said.He said his background in technical engineering and software development for entities such as the Los Alamos National Laboratory and Microsoft provides him with creative problem-solving skills and leadership experience.Brandon also said the time he's spent volunteering locally has shown him “firsthand the value of good community engagement.“We need to put our residents first, including those that have lived here their entire lives and those that move in today,” Brandon said.Brandon, whose wife, Heidi, volunteers on the township parks and recreation board, said he decided to run for supervisor because he believes in the township's potential.Supervisors are responsible for seeing that potential and striving for it within the functions of township government, according to Brandon.“There is much more to the role than the bimonthly meetings,” Brandon said.In his time as supervisor, Brandon said he's had the opportunity to ride with plow crews in the winter, explore the recently acquired park land and build interoffice relationships.Three things Brandon's particularly keen to promote if elected are an environment safe for all ages, township growth and effective communication.Specifically, Brandon said he plans to update communication strategies to meet the needs of current and future residents.“With the right team in place, we can improve the quality of life in Adams Township, while maintaining it as a safe environment to live for all ages,” Brandon said.
Stacey Palmer, 48, filed to run in both the six- and four-year seats.A practicing attorney for 24 years, Palmer has a law degree from Notre Dame and has had her own practice for two years. She also serves on the Adams Ridge Homeowners Association board.Palmer said her experience as a lawyer and local volunteer contribute to her civic-mindedness approach to leadership. One of her proudest accomplishments is being the “lead fundraiser” for the Mars Baseball Association light installation at Veterans Field last year.“The lights project was over a decade in the making and included the dedication of so many parents and volunteers through the years,” Palmer said.Township supervisors have a similar role, according to Palmer. She believes they're responsible for representing taxpayers in all matters.“Safety, zoning, roads and recreation,” Palmer said. “I want to make sure our beautiful amenities are accessible to all members of the community.”That includes ensuring the township expands its amenities to support a growing population and provides for infrastructure needs, according to Palmer. She said, ultimately, that depends on the consistent application of zoning ordinances.“If zoning ordinances are applied consistently, this properly balances the interests of current property owners with that of developers,” Palmer said.Ronald Nacey is also running for a supervisor seat. The Eagle did not receive responses to Nacey's candidate questions as of Friday morning.
